Frivolity for Friday: Spectra Logic was giving these USB keys away at their booth at Storage Decisions Chicago.
The picture is crappy, shot with a smart phone. But the unit itself is pretty substantial — a hefty model of Spectra Logic’s library. The red and white geegaw on the front is Spectra’s trademark TeraPack, a tape caddy used to simplify the loading and unloading of tapes from their library.
But with this miniature version, the TeraPack, when removed from the front of the library, is…
A USB key! BTW, it seems to transfer data faster than I can move data off of an aging Dell/EMC box I still have in my test bed arsenal here. However, it is much slower than the streaming rate you get with long block files (videos, etc.) off of a full-sized Spectra Logic library.
Nice giveaway, Spectra. Best I’ve seen at a conference in quite awhile.
