These days, just about everyone I talk to is sharing their concerns about the lack of strategic direction, mounting cost, and confusing guidance from analysts with respect to their data storage infrastructure. We are most certainly in a time of Infrastruggle, with hardware and software vendors advancing different, though equally self-serving solutions, with cloud vendors promising that they are the next big thing, and analysts cheerleading for whichever vendor shells out the biggest fees for service.
Against this backdrop, I am doing my best to listen to my consulting clients, readers and attendees at my seminars and conferences to identify problems, their root causes, and to identify a way forward. That is my personal infrastruggle, and I am pleased to be talking about many dimensions of the problem both here, on my blog, and at a new “blook” site I have created with the sponsorship of DataCore Software at Infrastruggle.com.
I will also be taking the Infrastruggle investigation on the road, beginning next week in Las Vegas and Chicago.
In Vegas, I am doing a three session exploration of the ramifications of the infrastruggle on data protection and business continuity planning. That’s part of IBM Edge 2013, where we are expecting upwards of 5000 attendees.

Mid-week (on Wednesday the 12th) I will be jumping out to Chicago, first, to talk about the Infrastruggle again at Storage Decisions, the wonderful TechTarget conference that I have been keynoting for the past couple of years.
Later that evening, before jetting back to Vegas for the remaining days of Edge, I will be having a little get-together with DataCore Software and a few of their customers, prospects, resellers and partners to formally kick off the Infrastruggle.com web site and to present a bit more about the pivotal role I see DataCore’s storage virtualization wares as playing in making an effective and strategic response to the trends that threaten to bankrupt IT budgets and place irreplaceable data assets at high risk.
On Thursday, I am back at IBM Edge 2013 in Vegas, where I will present a session twice on Building a Better Business Value Case for Tape:
|WE1298A||Building a Better Business Value Case for Tape Technology||Mandalay Bay – Islander I||Thurs, 13/Jun, 1:45 PM – 02:45 PM|
|WE1298B||Building a Better Business Value Case for Tape Technology||Mandalay Bay – South Pacific B||Thurs, 13/Jun, 04:30 PM – 05:30 PM|
When I am not presenting at IBM Edge, you are likely to find me hanging out either in other sessions, where I will live tweet my thoughts on presentation content, or hanging out over at the Social Lounge with my good friend, Mary Hall, and other bloggers who are participating in the conference and in tweetups and socials at the show. The social media events were some of the highlights of last year’s show. Here is a schedule for the Social Media Lounge at Edge if you want to drop by.
Monday June 10: Social Lounge Open 9:30 a.m. – 5:30 p.m
Tuesday June 11th Social Lounge Open 10:00 a.m. – 5:30 p.m

BTW, I just bought a couple of iPad Mini’s for the Storage Community to give away as prizes. If you haven’t registered at Storage Community, you need to do it now! That site is a great aggregator of content from leading publications and blog sites, and from IBM’s own extensive community of geniuses. Go here to see what Storage Community is all about.
I would very much like to meet as many of my readers as possible over the next week, and at upcoming TechTarget Seminars (Seattle, San Francisco and San Diego over the next three weeks) and at DataCore Roundtable events that will be scheduled in and around many of the same cities. Hope you will join me.
