Shatter the Platter…But Not In My Mail

by Administrator on January 5, 2011

The doorbell rang a few minutes after I had collected the mail today.  To my surprise, at the door was another postal worker, pressing into my hands a box sent to me from Hopkinton, MA.  Yep, EMC — the mightiest of the mighties — had sent me a package.

I donned my hazmat suit (you can’t be sure what they are sending in the mail these days) and opened the box with nervous hands…

Oddly shaped...like a calendar?

Using tongs I pulled apart the contents…

A bit of flat packaging cushioned by some bubble wrap. Hmm...

Gingerly, I pulled all of the elements apart, ensuring that my respirator was operational and blocking out any EMC vapors…

The document was intriguing, telling me not to miss out on a record breaking...

Record breaking?  I thought that was the point of the company’s Shatter the Platter campaign, which was waged against the perceived efficacy of optical storage technology two years ago…  Could this mail have been so long delayed?

Inside the sleeve, another sleeve containing hard cardboard fashioned to resemble a broken vinyl record...

Curious, I assembled the pieces to see the result…

Hmm, a record puzzle that sheds no light on the pitch. That's so EMC...

I thought about gluing the pieces together and trying to see whether playing the thing backwards would indeed invoke satanic spirits.  But that seemed like a lot of work, since I really don’t give a tinker’s damn what EMC is on about…

So, I filed it, lamenting the trees that had been killed and the carbon that had been released into the atmosphere so that EMC could send pointless mail to people on some poorly sorted direct mail list.

This is where all EMC mailing are filed in my office, not meaning to seem too harsh.

Why can’t you guys just send SPAM like everyone else!

Just accept it Jon; someone at EMC wants to be your friend.
